Sending money back home can be tough.
It’s slow. It’s expensive. And for millions of people without a bank account, it’s nearly impossible. Meanwhile, almost everyone has a smartphone in their pocket.
Enter Novi.
Think of it as international Venmo using blockchain technology. Novi was a seamless app that could let people send money instantly across borders, with zero fees and zero hassle.
For communities in the US supporting families in places like Guatemala and the Philippines, Novi was considered a lifeline. Fast, secure, and beautifully simple. A true gamechanger for anyone who’s ever had to stand in line at a money transfer counter wondering how much will actually make it home. Too bad Meta (along with various international governments) decided to kill the project, oh well it was a good idea. An idea ahead of it’s time. An idea the world was not quite ready for.
ALASKA, an incredible director duo based in São Paolo brought their signature cutting edge cinematic eye along with humor and magical realism to this project. ALASKA helped turn Novi’s promise into what could be a deeply relatable, visually stunning story that resonates across borders.
